PROPOSED DRAFT CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA
Constitutional Review Commission har skapat ett förslag på Gambias konstitution och föreslår bl.a. kvinnors och barns fulla rättigheter:
(1) Women are accorded full and equal dignity of the person with men. (2) Women have the right to equal treatment with men, including equal opportunities in political, economic and social activities.
(1) Every child has the right - (a) to a name and nationality from birth; (b) to adequate nutrition; (c) to be protected from abuse, neglect, all forms of violence, inhuman treatment and punishment, and hazardous or exploitative labour; (d) to parental care and protection, which includes equal responsibility of the mother and father, to provide for the child; Page 29 of 173 (e) to special protection against exposure to any physical or moral hazard; and (f) not to be detained, except as a measure of last resort, and then only for the shortest appropriate period. (2) Children under the age of sixteen years are entitled to be protected from economic exploitation and shall not be employed in or required to perform work that is likely to be hazardous or to interfere with their education or be harmful to their health or physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development.
